Introduction
As India moves rapidly towards a data-driven and digitally connected society, the need for trustworthy, secure, and ethically governed information ecosystems has become increasingly important. Sound information practices not only strengthen institutional functioning but also build public trust and support informed participation in the knowledge economy. In the Indian context, the fast expansion of digital services, the enactment of the Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act in 2023, and the growing dependence on online platforms have further highlighted the need for responsible information governance. Libraries, academic institutions, government organisations, and businesses are now expected to manage information throughout its lifecycle with due attention to accuracy, security, accessibility, privacy, and ethical use. At the same time, concerns such as misinformation, emerging cyber threats, resource constraints, and copyright and licensing issues underline the need for continuous dialogue, capacity building, and coordinated action among all stakeholders.
